The Flower Power Association
A climate fiction story

By Annemarie Waugh

“Hello Iris, it’s nice to see you, how was your winter?” Said Azalea

“It's good to be back”

“We are having a real spring this year, it’s been raining so much, all my secondary buds

are sprouting earlier than usual” explained Azalea

“I know, they haven’t even turned on the water shooters yet” said Iris

“All the neighbors have, we are always the last,” Azalea grumbled

“Here comes that dog again, she keeps peeing on me” Iris quietly says

“Blind as a bat, doesn’t seem to notice the bunny or squirrel families.” Azalea agreed

“It’s going to be a bumper year for the ticks and bunnies, multiplying, faster that you or

I can put down roots.”

“Yeah, I heard Mrs. Bunny complaining.”

“Thank goodness ticks don’t want to suck pollen.”

“I know what you mean, it’s one thing we don’t have to worry about.”

“Hello my darlings, you’ve both really blossomed into gorgeous flowers, really shot

up, must be all that rain,” burst in Rhododendron

“Hi Rhodie, you're looking quite well yourself, and I was sorry to see the silly human

man cut off your left side,” said Iris

“Thank you, I know it was a part of me that really didn’t want to do anything, it just

wanted to sleep, so naturally it didn’t grow or have any flowers, so, all in all I am rather

happy about it, I feel younger,” replied Rhodie

“Well, that’s good,” said Azalea
